For years now there is a special family that lives near Plentywood, Montana that my family has gone back and forth with since my sisters and I were little. Although Kent + I only lived 20 miles north of the USA border on our acreage, we were sadly cut off from going down to visit them for over three years. We’d usually go every few months so when things shut down that made for a long, lonely spell not seeing our friends at Plentywood, Montana. It also meant that I didn’t get to photograph this wonderful family for a few years! The kids had grown up so much since the last photo shoot but still have their fun, sweet personalities!! We always have a great time with our American friends and were glad for a couple visits in the summer before this photo shoot too. Then some of them came up to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with us so after a gap in visits we tried to make up for it in 2023!!
There are few times that a delayed harvest has any benefits but we lucked out the weekend of their family photos as there weren’t any crops ready to combine. Kent and I took a road trip to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole and our timing for photos on our return trip worked out really well. We were hoping for a golden hour glow but it was so smokey that the sun couldn’t shine through. However there were golden grasses and a golden family in the hills! These photos were literally taken in their beautiful backyard. A place to run free and explore. The area they call home really is incredible! It was sweet to capture their family’s connection again and update their family photos. Being trusted to document memories like these is treasured for me too when it’s friends that are clients and to enjoy time together in beautiful, scenic surroundings!!
